Urban planning
is the ultimate master plan which allows for the notion of design from
the macro to the micro. We are increasingly involved in planning groups of
buildings, roadways, site boundaries etc... this can range from higher density multi storey apartments
down to single dwellings, shops,
offices, parklands, and community buildings etc... Previously completed
projects have received numerous awards, however we take more pleasure in news
articles written by the occupiers of these communities, how they notice
the light in the rooms, the proportion of spaces etc... or even more-so, how
much they
enjoy living there.
The reason this is so gratifying is that our client for these 'Project Style' schemes
is the developer, and not the ultimate occupier. This usually means that we are dealing
with a much more limited palette - construction
methods, materials, and often the colours are defined by the
development company before design begins. For example, on one project (in
some photos below) roof tile, colour and profile were limited to a single
choice. There were only three choices for fence types and colours,
brick types and colours, and window types... quite challenging!
Obviously, this development approach is a very different realm to our 'one
off' purpose designed and built Projects.
